Capitalism - 2014 - Speculation
2014
Japanese ink, Japanese paper
1,160 × 760 × 25 mm

Description
“Capitalism - 2014 - Speculation” is based on three specific techniques.
1) I use only one kind of brush and one kind of ink.
When writing, I just use one kind of brush and one kind of ink and I make the contrast only by the different pressure that I give to my brush.
2) This work is written characters and text.
The texts are written in ancient traditional Japanese syllables, Kana. They are read down the columns and from right to left.
3) Texts are company names.
The texts I chose to write are the names of companies which are listed on the stock exchange all over the world. The list begins with “Exxon Mobile”, the largest global company scaled by total market capitalization, followed by “Apple”, “Petro China”, “Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited”, “Microsoft”, “BHP Billiton”, “Royal Dutch Shell”, “IBM”, and so on. There are 3031 names in total.
These pieces represent a personal style, a transformation of Kana into modern art.

Intimate Letters
2014
Japanese ink, drawing paper
400 × 500 × 40 mm

Description
Inspired by Leoš Janáček "Intimate Letters".

My enthusiasm is to cross the borders between many different things like “Countries, Religions, Languages, Cultures, etc”. Using Japanese traditional syllables as my basic tool, I also merge different aspects of the world into my works, for example, something modern and traditional, or music, drawing, and writing.

I collected 727 used Czechoslovak stamps. On back of these stamps, I wrote the musical notation of the “The String Quartet No. 2” known as “Intimate Letters” by Czechoslovak composer Leoš Janáček with ancient Japanese syllable characters, Kana. This music was written in memory of his love affair with Kamila Stösslová, intending to reflect 727 love letters he exchanged with Kamila (according to the Janáček Foundation). This is the reason why I collected 727 used Czechoslovak stamps for my work.
